2013 Block of the month

This is the block of the month that we did last year in quilt guild. I wanted to make it a little larger than a wall hanging so I added alternative (12.5") block which also gave me a chance for some quilting fun. I think I saw this feather type design somewhere and have kind of tweaked it to be my own. I just simply quilted a loop in the blocks as to not detract from them also I wanted this quilt to be a comfortable and useable throw so I kept the quilting to a minimum. Here is some more pictures of the quilting enjoy.

Valentine Fun!

Happy almost Valentines day are you getting into the Holiday spirit? I had the opportunity to quilt this for a friend who did an awesome job. This Pattern is from the book So Many Choices by Abbey lane. I chose to do a double heart in the X shape and then I pebbled around the words using very open quilting to keep this quilt soft. Here are a few more pictures of the quilting enjoy.

Valentine Pillows

This was a fun and quick project I decided to make so I could try Y seams. I have wanted to learn how to piece Y seams forever and have never been brave enough to try it. I have watched plenty of videos and read articles on this technique but this was one technique I needed a class for. I had an opportunity though my Quilt Guild  to learn how to do this and boy was I amazed at how seeing the demonstration on this technique really took the fear out of it for me. I highly suggest if you want to learn a technique and you are just not sure of what you are doing take a class or ask someone.  I decided that I would go ahead and put together these pillow covers to solidify the information that I learned. I went ahead and quilted these on my long arm with Mono poly. Here is a close up of the quilting it is a little hard to see because of the Mono poly but I did a heart on the border and just meandered the center.  Thanks for stopping by

Rosettes

Hello it's been quite a whirlwind of a week for me I had a couple of opportunities come my way and I have been getting used to a new schedule.  This was a quilt I made as a shop sample. It is nothing that I would have chosen myself and I have to say it made it a great project. Sometimes I think it is great to sew for others whether it be for a family member, shop or a friend. This can get you out of your comfort zone or quilting rut and into experiencing new and different things. Here are a few more photos of the quilting:

Roll Up Fun

I just finished up this fun quilt using a Robert Kaufman Roll up. I love these 2 1/2" strips what can I say they are so versatile! Without a  border a Roll up will give you a great sized throw and with a border it will make a twin size quilt. I took forty of the strips from the roll and sewed them together which gave me a center panel that measured approx. 80" long and 45" wide  I then added a 5" border to the top and bottom and a 8" border to each side making the quilt 60x90 you could add an inner border to increase the size. This size does cover a twin size bed but there is not a lot of drape over the edges. I wanted to be able to use a piece of Minky for the back without having to seam it. This is a great size for bunk beds. Here is a close up of the quilting:
I used Split Paint by Anne Bright to quilt this click on the name to find it.

Turning twenty

I have to say this is a classic! I have heard so much about this pattern and I have to admit this was my first Turning Twenty ever it is  THE BEST PATTERN EVER. I need a semi speedy project for Christmas and I always try and sew a quilt for the family member I have for Christmas. I have been doing picnic quilts for the last few members and I hadn't made this family one. I used a variety of homespun fat quarters from my stash and a couple of canvas drop cloths. I love the drop cloth because it is nice and heavy and is great outside. I do prewash the drop cloths when I use them in quilts like this but for me it gives me a break from denim. I didn't prewash the homespun and I will let you know later if that was a bad decision. I did choose to use a little bit darker thread than I would have regularly chosen, my point in doing this was to give the back some variety and help hide dirt after all this is a quilt that is made to be used outside. Another thing that I would like to say is I did quilt this with an all over pattern In my opinion it really would have been a waste to quilt this custom it is going to be used and washed and hauled around and I didn't want it to feel unusable. Here is a close up of the quilting:

Another Great Customer Quilt

I have to say I love My job I love your willingness to share your creativity and let me be creative too! This quilt was a perfect husband gift even my own  husband said wow I really like this one. I chose to do a center swirl and a edge scroll on this quilt and I thought it turned out awesome. My customer requested the red thread and I have to say I would have never picked it. Boy would this quilt lacked personality if it was quilted in a more neutral color. The background fabric was solid black and I added all the red scroll work around the appliques my customer so lovingly stitched on there. The middle is a dived nine patch some of the fabrics are the theater candy kind. The back is Minky and all I have to say is wow I am really loving the Minky all quilted up it turns out great! Here are a few shots of the quilting enjoy!
